SACRED RHYTHMS on the drum & the waters within :: Hand drumming elevates your sense of creativity and synchronizes the left and right brain hemispheres, and when the logical left hemisphere and the intuitive right hemisphere of your brain begin to pulsate together, your inner guidance system – or intuition – becomes stronger. Furthermore, drumming induces deep relaxation and a reversal in stress hormones, allowing ‘feel good’ hormones (serotonin, dopamine, etc.) to flood your body while also boosting your immune system.
MORE: Back in the early 2000’s Remo Belli invited Barry Bittman, MD, neurologist and President of the Yamaha Music & Wellness Institute, to share his research on the health benefits of drumming and those findings revealed drumming did indeed strengthens the immune system and Remo’s HealthRHYTHMS protocol was born along with Paulo Mattioli’s FitRHYTHMS, for which Tahya is also certified to offer.
Musician-Priestesses of Goddess Hathor played a prominent role in ancient Egyptian society and inspire us today!
Layne Redmond‘s book When the Drummers were Women was among the original inspirations to learn more about and ultimately design the Ceremonial Systrum™ ~ a handheld percussion instrument most often used in accompaniment with the frame drum, clapping and dancing in ancient Egyptian temple rites and festive celebrations.
Balance outer world circumstances with rhythm and movements that raise our vibration, elevate our joy and enliven our creative spirit: We ARE Resilient. Renewed. Resolute. Stronger. Our hearts expand with true purpose, grace, love, compassion and creativity.
Rhythms dating back to when women were the sacred timekeepers
Layne Remond was the first woman to “spell it out” for me ~ specifically, telling us, “The pulse of your grandmother’s mother’s blood pulsed in your grandmother’s blood pulsing in your mother’s blood and the pulse of your mother’s blood pulses in you and so on” … and so on and so on…..”The first sound everyone on Earth hears is the sound of our mother’s heartbeat and we carry the pulse of our grandmothers and mother’s blood in our blood.” Astonishingly our relationship with rhythm begins in the womb which also harkens to our ties with the Goddess Hathor, ancient Egyptian Goddess of Fertility, Women & Motherhood (and more). As human beings, we are intrinsically rhythmic, and this rhythm is a potent source of well-being.
The ritual use of rhythmically beating a drum is one of the oldest practices of humankind. The beat of the first drum reminds of our distant ancestors and of our deep connection to the body of our mother, and to Earth itself.
In addition to sharing an enthusiasm for frame drumming, Tahya also has mastered the craft of playing finger cymbals, another time-honored tradition of women accompanying themselves with metal disks. Following the Jamila Salimpour method making this art brilliant and accessible, first the pattern is reviewed and articulated, followed by an invitation to play it half-time, and then full-time.
There’s nothing quite like a dancer who is skilled at playing finger cymbals with precision & variety.
